A diverter valve kit is basically a back-pressure bypass that ensures the boost pressure is not choked off when the throttle closes. The advantage of ours: the back pressure is diverted directly upstream of the throttle. Since the valve in our system sits after the intercooler, only cool air is recirculated. On many engines, the factory diverter valve is located before the intercooler, so only hot, uncooled air is recirculated. This conversion kit does not just improve the look of the engine bay. On Golf 5 GTI Edition 30 and Pirelli models, for example, the kit allows the valve to be relocated to a cooler area of the engine bay, which in turn has the advantage that it no longer suffers heat-related damage and that cooler air is also returned to the intake system. The cooler the air, the higher the density of the intake air, and the higher the density, the better the cylinder filling, which also results in higher power.
