The pre-facelift Golf 7 R has a fairly plain rear valance with the outlets sitting at the outer left and right edges, which keeps the rear end visually very calm. The GRAIL tailpipe set in carbon adds structure: the four-outlet version with two exposed carbon exits per side gives the valance depth without distorting the narrow basic shape of the pre-facelift car.
